  • Starting Point: Begin your adventure at Telearuba, the local TV station in Pos Chiquito, Savaneta. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure for a quick briefing and introduction to your personal guide.

  • Scenic Lagoon Views: Hike along a scenic bridge offering panoramic views of the Spanish Lagoon — the perfect spot to capture stunning vacation photos.

  • Ancient Shell Middens: Visit one of seven prehistoric shell middens, carbon-dated between 1465–1280 BC, remnants of Aruba’s early Amerindian inhabitants.

  • Historic Aloe Farm: Pass one of Aruba’s oldest aloe farms as we ascend, then reconnect with the trail below.

  • Mangrove Trail: Journey through a rare inland mangrove forest, home to unique flora and fauna found nowhere else on the island.

  • Historic Gold Barge Site: Walk past the location where gold was once loaded onto barges more than a century ago, headed to ships waiting offshore.

  • Shoco Nesting Grounds: Visit the protected nesting area of the Shoco, Aruba’s burrowing owl and national symbol. Endemic and incredibly photogenic, spotting one is a true highlight!

  • Balashi Gold Smelter Ruins: Explore the old Balashi gold smelter ruins, a powerful reminder of Aruba’s gold rush era.

Please arrive 15 minutes before departure at the Telearuba Local Station parking lot in Savaneta.

  Briefing
At the Telearuba local TV station, you’ll receive a brief introduction to the tour team and an overview of what to expect during your experience.

  Sightseeing walk along Spanish Lagoon area
From there, we’ll begin our hike across the bridge that offers panoramic views of the entire Spanish Lagoon—a perfect spot to snap some of the best sightseeing photos of your trip.

 7 shell middens
At this point, you’ll come across one of the seven ancient shell middens found in the Spanish Lagoon area, carbon-dated between 1465 and 1280 BC—a fascinating glimpse into Aruba’s early indigenous history.

 Oldest Aloe Farms
We’ll pass by one of Aruba’s oldest aloe farms at the top of the trail before making our way back down to rejoin the main path

 Mangrove Trail
As we continue inland along the mangrove trail, you’ll notice a distinct variety of flora and fauna, unique to this area—the only inland water ecosystem on the entire island.

 Area where they Loaded the barges
Along the trail, you’ll come across the historic spot where gold was once loaded onto barges over a century ago, destined for ships waiting offshore—a fascinating piece of Aruba’s gold rush past.

 “Shoco” area
At the end of this incredible trail, we’ll pass by the protected Shoco nest area. If we’re fortunate and remain quiet, we may spot these remarkable creatures. The Shoco, Aruba’s national symbol, is a burrowing owl found only on the island. Known for its photogenic nature, it’s truly a delight to see in its natural habitat.

 Old Balashi Gold smelter ruins
Next, we’ll take you to the old ruins of the Balashi Gold Smelter, where much of the historic structure still remains, offering a glimpse into Aruba’s gold mining past.

 Haunted Frenchman’s Pass
You’ll hear the fascinating tale of the haunted Frenchman’s Pass, located right next to the headwaters. It’s a story steeped in mystery and local legend.

This is a physically active tour, so a general level of health and fitness is required. Guests should be able to walk long distances. Children 6 and under cannot participate unless approved in advance by our guide (please call us directly for approval). Please note, this tour is not wheelchair accessible.
