Overview of Lessons

On average, most people progress through the following stages during their kitesurfing and kitefoiling lessons. Of course, everyone learns at their own pace, and your journey will be unique to you. Our goal is to make sure you have the best kitesurfing and kitefoiling vacation in Aruba, with a progression that keeps the excitement high without compromising safety. We focus on keeping the experience fun and motivating, ensuring you stay stoked and ready to master the waves! 🌊

1st Lesson – Kite-Flying Basics

The first lesson starts on land for those with no previous kite-flying experience. You will use a small, low-power trainer kite to learn the various flying techniques, and then progress to the beach where we explain how to rig up a larger kite. Depending on how well you master the kite-flying exercises on land, there may be some time to try your hand at the larger, inflated kite in the water.

What you’ll learn:

Skill Details
The concept of the wind window and power zone Understanding how the wind affects kite control
Upwind, crosswind, and downwind directions Learn to navigate the wind's influence
Kite terminology Familiarize yourself with key kite terms
Kite-flying drills Practice essential kite control skills
How to avoid unsafe kite-flying habits Safety tips to prevent common mistakes
Using clock numbers to describe the kite position Visualizing kite angles for better control
Steering the kite into and out of the power zone Learn to control kite power and speed
Power dives, both strong and weak Master the technique of controlled dives
Introducing the harness and one-handed kite control Start using the harness for added control
Rigging the 4-line, inflated kite Learn how to properly set up a larger kite

2nd Lesson – Core Skills

In this lesson, and in all following lessons, you will be in the water with the kite. This lesson focuses on your essential kite skills to make you safer and more independent in the water.

What you’ll learn:

Skill Details
Holding the kite still with low power Dive the kite to generate pull
Controlling the strength of your power dives Learning to cut the power of the kite
Practicing kite safety systems and self-rescue Re-launching the kite from the water
Using the kite to move your body through the water (body dragging) Body dragging in different directions, upwind and downwind

3rd Lesson – Water Start

Here is the HTML code for the lesson with the table: ```html
Trying to stand up on the board is perhaps the most exciting part of the learning process, but it is also the most challenging part for learners. You need to fly the kite correctly while also dealing with a board on your feet. Once you’ve learned the kite-flying drills well enough, it gets easier. Our experienced instructors will do their best to teach you the correct kite techniques to get you up and riding safely.

What you’ll learn:

Skill Details
Explanation of the water start Keeping the kite at 12 with one hand
Putting the board on with your other hand Short water starts followed by controlled stops
``` This HTML code will display the paragraph and table as requested, outlining the skills to be learned in this lesson.
4th Lesson – Water Start & Riding
Getting up on the board is one thing, but staying up on it is quite something else! We will guide you through this tricky stage with expert instruction. At this point, we are often heading a little further away from the beach as you start to make longer runs, so we continue to coach you from one of our rescue boats, making sure that you consistently progress and can get back to the beach safely. We’ll make sure you enjoy your kitesurfing and kitefoiling vacation in Aruba!
What you’ll learn:
Skill Details
The relationship between board direction and speed Balance and weight distribution
Stance Using the kite to maintain your speed
5th Lesson – Riding & Edging
Once you're up and riding, the next step is learning how to edge the board to control your direction. The key goal at this stage is mastering the ability to ride back upwind, as most beginners tend to drift downwind during their first attempts. Achieving this skill is often celebrated with cheers, and you'll feel a sense of accomplishment—just like the peace of mind knowing your responsibilities are in good hands while you focus on the fun of kitesurfing.
*Riding upwind typically requires additional lessons, especially for those without prior board-riding experience.
Advanced Lessons & Tricks
If you're already familiar with the basics, our skilled instructors are here to guide you through more advanced kitesurfing techniques.
Techniques you can learn include:
Advanced Skills Details
Turning (also known as transitions) Riding toe side
Jumping Riding a directional board
Freestyle tricks (back rolls, front rolls, etc.)
Kite Foiling
Ready to elevate your kitesurfing experience? Kitefoiling is the next level of excitement, where you use a hydrofoil board to glide above the water’s surface. This discipline is faster than traditional kitesurfing, as the foil slices through the water with minimal drag, providing a smooth and exhilarating ride. Kitefoil enthusiasts quickly fall in love with the peaceful sensation of being elevated above the water.
Our kitefoiling lessons take place in the open ocean, with a boat stationed nearby to ensure plenty of space and a tranquil environment. If you’re already proficient in kitesurfing, kitefoiling is the perfect next step in your journey. With just a few lessons, you’ll be ready to go off on your own and enjoy the thrill of this advanced technique!
